Nigel Martyn Great try
Martyn became the first £1m goalkeeper in 1989, moving from Bristol Rovers to Crystal Palace. He had several good seasons before Everton came in for him in 1996 only to lose out to Leeds United who paid £2.5m for his services.

This was his most successful time and in 1999/2000 season he finished in 3rd place in the premiership whch in turn gave him champions league football. Also in the same year got to the UEFA cup semi-final.

However this may have also been his most frustrating of times. After a public falling out with then manager Terry Venables in the summer of 2002 he spent the whole of the 2002/3 season on the bench.

David Moyes moved in for the out of favour keeper in a bid to give the other keepers at Everton a wake up call. After a major injury to Richard Wright Martyn was given his chance and has held his place on merit through the 2003/4 campaign. If his form continues in this vein Richard Wright will no longer be the automatic first choice keeper. At 37 Martyn is possibly playing his best football in the twilight of his career.
